About Mitchell
Honest, Energetic, Persistent and CommittedMitchell has lived in Huerfano County for over 10 years. He grew up in the San Luis Valley where he helped run his family's ranching business. His experiences shaped his work ethic and made him very familiar with the intricacies of Colorado water rights. After high school, Mitchell earned a degree in horticulture from Front Range Community College. Since then, Mitchell has successfully started multiple businesses in Huerfano County and personally knows the challenges that face our small business owners.
Mitchell is determined to find solutions. He will work tirelessly to hold Huerfano County accountable to its citizens. Mitchell is not a career politician but feels that it is time to make a change that will benefit the families and businesses of our community.
Mitchell believes that gaining knowledge about a problem is the first step to a solution. If he doesn't know the answer, he will find someone who will. He is someone who listens before he speaks and considers before he acts.

Mitchell's family BondsTogether with his family, Mitchell started a nursery and garden center in Huerfano County. They have been in operation since 2015, providing flowers for people all across southern Colorado.
Working together in a fast-paced setting has taught Mitchell how to coordinate with others to find quick and effective solutions.
Compassion and hard work are the pillars of Mitchell's family, and these qualities will govern his actions as your county commissioner.

Not Your Standard PoliticianLet's be honest: lack of funding is a major hurdle for Huerfano County.
As a major highway artery for southern Colorado, Mitchell believes that there is tremendous, untapped opportunity for economic development in Huerfano County.
Mitchell is a firm believer in financial responsibility and believes that a strong private sector is key to Huerfano's future: not raising taxes on her citizens. With his business-friendly position, Mitchell hopes to encourage an economy that will flourish and create a strong and long-lasting infrastructure. With a wider and more prosperous income base, our county will be able to:
- Better support law enforcement
- Provide better job opportunities
- Make it safer for homes and businesses

Mitchell Wardell is currently a Board Member for the Huerfano County Farm Bureau and an Adult Advisor for the Huerfano County 4-H council. Mitchell has also been the co-vise chair for the Huerfano County Republican Party. He has furthermore been helping several non-profit domestic and worldwide projects. Mitchell strives to make a difference both at home and around the world

Mitchell Wardell is running for Commissioner because he wants to see real economic growth in Huerfano County. Mitchell wants to see good-paying jobs come back, so our youth don't have to move to another city or state to find work. He wants to see our county fully funded, so that we don't have to make dangerous budget cuts.

Mitchell decided to run for office because he recognized the serious need Huerfano County has with funding key departments like the Sheriff’s Office and road infrastructure. There is not enough manpower to service the entire county and not enough money in the budget to hire more. Our county is known for being poor. We rely heavily on grants to fund projects throughout the county. Grants are great for jump-starting a project, but without the money to maintain them they don’t last. Looking to grants for funding is like trying to fix a broken leg with a Band-Aid. We desperately need a long-term, sustainable solution.
Raising taxes is often the "go to" for fixing financial shortcomings in government. But this only causes inflation and further burdens the citizens of Huerfano County. Mitchell believes we can solve this problem by encouraging economic growth in the private sector. To do this, we need to ask ourselves: "What does Huerfano County have to offer?" In the past, it was coal mining and logging, and through these natural resources we had a strong economy. Today he thinks we can explore distribution and manufacturing. We are a major artery between the mountains and the Great Plains, with highways and railways traveling north to south and east to west. Mitchell believes we can reach out to companies who are looking to expand their distribution and manufacturing network and offer them a chance to take advantage of our strategic location.
As commissioner, Mitchell will strive to make it as easy and streamlined as possible for companies and businesses to establish themselves here in Huerfano County. A strong private sector will always result in a strong infrastructure. And a strong infrastructure will always result in a safe community.
